Welcome to... Plascassier
Nestled in tree filled, green rolling countryside, under endless blue skies, lies yet another little gem in the treasure known as the Côte d'Azur: the tiny village of Plascassier.
Located only a brisk walk from Valbonne, approximately seven kilometres from Grasse, and about thirty kilometres from Nice airport, this little piece of old French world charm is ideally located for access to the many attractions and experiences the region has to offer. Although the village is bordered by several communes; Opio, Valbonne, Mouans - Châteauneuf-de-Grasse, and Sartoux, this most charming of locations retains its own character and flavour, and is popular with visitors, locals, and expatriate residents alike.
From ancient times the water from the plains of Plascassier and Opio has fed the river Brague and long ago, the local population were known as âles pascadousâ the fishermen. In the past the river was an excellent source of crayfish. The soil here is fertile and rich in clay and chalk, and provides ideal growing conditions for jasmine and roses. There are six jasmine producers situated around the village, supplying the nearby perfume industry of Grasse, making the simple pleasure of just strolling aimlessly a truly breathtaking experience.
Plascassier was home to Edith Piaf and it was here in this tranquil setting that she died, on 10, October 1963. The nearby local 17th century church, one of the many local attractions, is dedicated to Saint-Pancrace and Saint Donat is particularly beautiful and sits next to the exquisite Des Dauphins fountain built in 1891. Sitting outside street walk cafes, gently whiling away the hours is a favourite pastime among those who favour the more relaxed, leisurely lifestyle. There are a number of interesting walks in the area including; Plascassier to Castelleras, which takes you past some lovely landscaped properties and outstanding views. Take the path towards Le Roure de la Gâche and marvel at the spectacular views overlooking the Bay of La Napoule; wherever you may wander there will be sights and smells to delight and enliven you.
In addition to the outstanding natural beauty of Plascassier, the area has a wealth of outdoor pursuits and interests to choose from. There are the nearby coastal resorts of Cannes and Nice to explore and enjoy, and there is much to occupy the resident and visitor in the immediate vicinity. This includes art galleries, museums, first class golf courses, tennis courts, and fishing. There are the restaurants, serving the most wonderful food and wine; whether it is lunch during an idyllic afternoon or dinner by candle light in the warm Mediterranean night air. The region boasts great markets and even boot sales, and for those seeking out a little bit of both contemporary and old world French artefacts and treasures, you have some interesting and exciting adventures to look forward too.
