Welcome to... Roquefort les Pins
Roquefort les Pins covers an area of some 2,100 hectares and is situated north of Valbonne - and to the west of Grasse. It is not a village in the Provencal sense but rather a commune of several residential hamlets surrounded by pine woods.
Roquefort les Pins has been inhabited since the Bronze age but first comes to historical record during the Roman era, as does much of the region. It was originally a small defensive outpost known in Latin as a "castrum". The arrival of the Romans meant not only security for those living in the near vicinity, but a means of commerce; The Romans had coinage and barter, and many people from the surrounding districts soon settled. The population has since then grown…but not by much.
Set back from the coast, and surrounded by the neighbouring hills, the summer temperatures are never excessive in Roquefort les Pins, in winter the sea is close enough to help maintain temperatures pleasantly mild, making this location ideal for those who prefer a more moderate environment. As a consequence, this historical little village is popular with tourists and residents who prefer the quieter life…a slightly slower, more comfortable pace.
For both the tourist and resident alike there are a large number of cultural and sporting activities to be found in and around the commune; lovers of fine food and wine travel from near and far to enjoy the excellent restaurants the area can boast. Roquefort is a little detached from the bright lights of its more famous cousins, but that does not mean the same exquisite food and high standards of service aren’t available…they are, wonderfully so.
